Operating out of Papakura, Pukekohe, Waiuku, Te Kauwhata and Taupiri, Franklin Vets has an experienced team of nine large animal vets who:

Dairy Farmer?
Franklin Vets was originally founded to provide veterinary care for the farmers of South Auckland. Today the service and advice on dairy cattle medicine and production we give to our dairy clients is the main focus of the farm services team. We offer:
- Reproductive services; offering solutions for non cycling cows, manual and ultrasound pregnancy diagnosis, working with you to get compact calving patterns and optimal cow health through the mating period.
- Mastitis treatment programs and advice; Using the Grade Buster approach to mastitis control that was pioneered at Franklin Vets we can provide solutions to high somatic cell counts, clinical mastitis, milk grading problems and advice on dry cow therapy.
- Nutritional advice and consultancy with our Intelact consultants to drive farm productivity and profitability.
- Vaccination programs to prevent leptospirosis, clostridial diseases, BVD, neospora abortion, pink eye and calf scours.
- Treatment and management of lameness.

Our rural vets provide a full range of medical, surgical and advisory services for common farm species on small blocks.
We understand the needs of lifestyle farmers, and their animals, and have a growing number of lifestyle farm clients. We offer tailored veterinary care for all farm and lifestyle animals…pigs,
alpacas, horses, goats, cattle sheep and deer.
This is supplemented by information and education on animal health and farming systems for our clients.

An integral part of our farm services operation is providing farmers with access to high quality competitively priced animal health products. To assist farmers optimise livestock productivity and on farm returns our on-road rural sales managers Matt Airey and Ross MacDonald work closely with our veterinary team to provide the best solutions when purchasing;

Complete care for small animals
Our vets and their supporting nursing teams, are renown for their experience and caring approach with small animals.
A number of our vets have developed areas of special interest and through their committment and further studies our clients and their pets are assured a higher level of care. All spey and neuter patients receive pain management before and after surgery with animals going home on post operative pain relief medication.

Phil MacLeod - Small Animal Veterinarian
Phil graduated from Massey University in 1989 and after some years in mixed and small animal practice joined Franklin Vets as a small animal veterinarian at the Papakura clinic in 1995. He became a Director of the Practice in 2003.
Phil has developed special interest in the areas of small animal medicine and ultrasonography and gained membership of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in 1999.
Family and the occasional triathlon take up his spare time.

Nick Twyford - Small Animal Veterinarian
Nick is a graduate of Massey University and after working in Australia and the UK he started with Franklin Veterinary Services in 1982 becoming a director in 1986. Nick's main clinical interests are othopaedic surgery and dentistry. In 1986 he became a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists, being examined in the subject of canine medicine.
He is also a keen fisherman.

Dr Paul Eason BVM&S MACVSc - Small Animal Veterinarian
Paul graduated in 1989 at Edinburgh. He has worked in a variety of practices in the UK, moving to New Zealand in 1997 and is now a director of Franklin Vets. Paul's main interests are in surgery, particularly orthopaedics, and he enjoys mucking about with lame dogs. Paul holds Membership of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Surgery and Emergency Medicine and Critical Care. Spare time found between work, children and working on the house is spent doing multisport and getting himself lost in the bush. Paul is a self-confessed fitness fanatic, such that two days without training are simply torture for him. Has now told far too many people he wants to do the Coast to Coast, so feels he ought to try at least one of these days.

Dr Ross Beal BVSc - Veterinarian & Practice Manager
In 2005 Ross took up the role of Practice Manager responsible for the day to day leadership and administration of Franklin Vets.
Ross first joined Franklin Veterinary Services as a new graduate in 1975 and became a partner in 1982. Over the years he has had many roles within Franklin Veterinary Services and has variously worked out of Papakura, Waiuku and Pukekohe clinics. From 1995 he was engaged in the dairy consultancy division of the practice, working with veterinary drug companies on new product trials, and then as a full time Intelact Consultant. He is still involved in Intelact Consultancy and is a Director of Intelact and SourceNZ.
These years of experience have given him a wide appreciation of the veterinary & farming industries.

Jason Fayers - Large Animal Veterinarian
Jason graduated from Edinburgh in 1996 and has lived and worked in Pukekohe on and off since 1998. For the past 8 years his main focus has been on dairy cattle, with experience split between high yielding holstein dairy cows in the U.K. and N.Z. Dairying Systems. Jason became a director of Franklin Vets in 2007.
Having recently gained a Post Graduate Certificate in Cattle Health and Productivity, his main interests are in Dairy Herd Health Planning.
Jason coached and played rugby at Onewhero for several seasons, but after another concussion he is now resigned to being a vocal supporter!

Mark Hosking - Large Animal Veterinarian
Mark is the manager of the Te Kauwhata branch and he assists at the Taupiri branch
He works as both a farm animal veterinarian and Intelact consultant.
Mark joined Franklin Vets in 2005, after four years in dairy practice in Otorohanga and two years working with intensive dairy farms in the UK. Mark holds the MACVSc post grad qualification in Dairy cattle Medicine and Production, and has special interests in Herd Health Programs, Nutrition, Mastitis and Reproduction
Mark lives with his wife and daughter in Waerenga.

Dr David Hawkins BVSc - Farm Services Veterinarian
David graduated from Massey University in 1992. After several years in mixed practice in New Zealand and abroad he started with Franklin Vets in 1997 as a Farm Services Veterinarian and became a Director of the Company in 2003.
David operates from the Waiuku Branch servicing farm and lifestyle clients. He has a broad experience in mastitis management and control, clinical trial work and is growing an Intelact consultancy base. David is the current Dairy Cattle Veterinary Society Representative
on the National Mastitis Committee and contributes regularly to various farming publications on mastitis and milk quality issues.
Outside of the job he spends a lot of time with family and church activities enjoying squash, music, bush walking and water sports.
